It’s always a nice surprise when a new America First candidate throws their hat into the GOP political ring.
America First Still Rages On
A pro-Trump Republican is now vying for a U.S. Senate seat which is vacant following two-term Senator Rob Portman.
In Ohio, Mike Gibbons announced his campaign which he’s hoping will building the name recognition he obtained when he ran in 2018.
Gibbons is a former Cleveland investment banker and used to very recently be a chairman of Ohio Strong Action. This group focuses on conservatives who support President Donald Trump.
To kick off his America First campaign, Gibbons said he plans to donate $5 million of his own money to start off his campaign.
Lots of Competition
Lots of Republicans have entered or are considering trying to grasp the Republican nomination. In February both former Ohio Republican Party Chair Jane Timken and Cleveland businessman Bernie Moreno joined in for the nomination race.
Highlands News-Sun reported on his strong support of Donald Trump:
During the 2020 election cycle, Gibbons’ group Ohio Strong Action endorsed and supported conservative candidates and produced a pro-Trump TV ad. As the group’s chair, Gibbons spoke to groups around the state and organized small business roundtables, as well as donating $500,000 to support Republican candidates, he said.
Gibbons said in an earlier statement that he has continued to build the grassroots organization since it backed former U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci, who won 38 of Ohio 88 counties in the 2018 Senate primary. Democrat Sherrod Brown handily defeated Renacci that year to win reelection to a third six-year term.
The Race is Still On
America First supporters are still fighting even though the election was most likely stolen from Trump. Despite having Joe Biden currently in office, “Making America Great Again” and the concept of putting “America First” still is in the works and many conservatives such as Gibbons are still attempting to make these slogans a reality.
