Tom Homan doesn’t care whether Venezuela likes it or not. They’re getting their migrants back. Joe and Kamala’s handlers gave them “special” protected status, even the Tren de Aragua killers, because the South American nation “stopped accepting deportation flights.” Liberals totally freaking out about plans for mass deportations cling to that desperate shred of hope. “It’s a problem President-elect Donald Trump will have to solve” to make that promise good, progressives whine. It’s been solved.
Homan has a plan
Our new Border Czar, Tom Homan, has a plan of his own but he prefers to go through channels. Democrats are scrambling to extend sanctuary to “more than 800,000 Venezuelan” asylum seekers. Those are just the ones who poured across the border in the Biden administration. Everyone knows by now that a huge chunk of them are “members of the brutal prison gang Tren de Aragua.” It’s not fair for Nicolás Maduro to drop ship his criminals here. Trump’s gearing up return to sender operations.
Angry Democrats cornered Homan recently to taunt him with the challenge. You can stop sneering, the Border Czar clapped back. Trump, he explains patiently, “has a lot of leverage to force Venezuela to start accepting deportations.” It shouldn’t take more than one phone call. Along with a threat of “even more sanctions,” Trump can cancel Venezuela’s foreign aid. Last year that was $209 million. That should do the trick.
“He got El Salvador to take back MS-13, he got Mexico to agree to the Remain in Mexico program. So I got faith in President Trump to work with the president of Venezuela,” Homan declares. Things are so terrible in the equatorial nation that “millions of Venezuelans have left their home country in recent years, fleeing the corruption and economic collapse brought on by the communist regime of President Nicolás Maduro.”
Leave them on the doorstep
If Maduro remains totally obstinate, he still won’t be able to outstubborn Homan. Every illegal invader who came from Venezuela is going straight back there.
It would be great if Maduro lets Uncle Sam fly them into Caracas but it’s not a problem if he won’t. Venezuela has a whole lot of coastline. Delivering them the final few miles by boat won’t be much more difficult.
Tren de Aragua thought they had all the angles figured out. The violent prison gang “saw an opportunity with the influx of Venezuelans into the U.S. and began to pose as asylum seekers as they sneaked into the country.”
Planning ahead, “many members avoided getting the gang’s signature tattoos to go undetected when crossing the border.” Under Democrat rule, TdA “set up shop in at least 16 states.” Georgia nursing student Laken Riley was murdered by a TdA member. They weren’t planning on Tom Homan.
Ron Vitiello, who served as acting ICE chief during Trump’s first term, confirms that “the gang only began to show up on the radar of border authorities and local cops during the Biden administration.” Nobody heard of them until Joe opened the floodgates.
“There hasn’t been an arrest of a Tren de Aragua member in reported CBP data before 2021. Think of that, that’s incredible. I was in the government for 34 years. I never heard of Tren de Aragua until after I left in 2021 when it became a thing in New York.” Homan doesn’t care how tough and smart they think they are, he’s tougher and smarter.
