Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) easily secured the Democratic primary win in the Bronx and Queens congressional district.
AOC Secures Another Big Win
The freshman Democrat representative secured the win for New York’s 14th Congressional District on June 24, 2020, over longtime CNBC correspondent and anchor Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, as well as two other challengers. The area is heavily comprised of Democrats and has been consistent in voting for left-wing candidates.
For many years, the seat was held by Democrat Joe Crowley, but AOC took his position in the surprising 2018 midterm elections. Her extremist views and socialist agenda campaign promises gave her national attention and made her a star in Congress.
She took to Twitter to say that her first win in 2018 was anything but a fluke, but rather a “mandate.”
“When I won in 2018, many dismissed our victory as a ‘fluke,'” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Tuesday when numbers showed she would be a shoo-in for the primary win. “Our win was treated as an aberration, or bc my opponent ‘didn’t try.’ So from the start, tonight’s race was important to me. Tonight we are proving that the people’s movement in NY isn’t an accident. It’s a mandate.”

Is Socialism Here to Stay?
30-year-old AOC received a massive 70 percent of the primary vote with her opponent Caruso-Cabrera only getting 19 percent, Fox News reported. CNN wrote that according to data from the Federal Election Commission, AOC’s fundraising brought in $10.5 million while Caruso-Cabrera only raised more than $2 million.
She railed against Wall Street CEOs, who she alleges tried to oust her by giving money to stop her re-election goals.
“Wall Street CEOs, from Goldman Sachs to Blackstone, poured in millions to defeat our grassroots campaign tonight. But their money couldn’t buy a movement,” she said. “Here’s to speaking truth to power.”

Thank you #NY14, and every person who pitched in for tonight’s victory.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, a fellow radical socialist, congratulated his leftist pal on her victory.
“The people in her district have spoken loudly and clearly about her leadership, her struggles for workers’s (sic) rights, racial justice, climate change and many other issues. Taking on a well-funded opponent, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez won a landslide victory. Congratulations Alexandria,” he said.
More Radical Agendas on the Horizon
AOC has tried to implement far-left policies such as the “Green New Deal,” which most Republicans have declared extremely dangerous to our country’s freedoms.
According to Breitbart News, a 2019 study conducted by American Action Forum (AAF) found that AOC’s Green New Deal would cost upwards of $93 trillion over ten years. This cost would be four times more than the United States’ national debt.
Caruso-Cabrera, on the other hand, describes herself as more of a centrist and moderate – a far cry from AOC’s radical ideologies. The more moderate Democrat has said, “Medicare-for-all is not the answer,” and shot down the idea of the Green New Deal as being a “divisive policy.”
As AOC continues her radical political streak, it will be interesting to see what the socialist darling will do next.
