One of the longest-sitting Democrats in the House has found herself in trouble.
Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), who has been in office since 1993, has some big troubles on the horizon.
She is under investigation for soliciting gifts from the Met Gala.
Can’t Do That
Maloney will be headed out of Congress at the end of this term.
She may be doing so with some hefty fines.
In 2016, the Met dropped her from the guest list even though it was located in her district.
When she found out she had been dropped, a letter was sent to the Met expressing her disappointment, citing all she had done.
The implication is those favors would stop unless she found some tickets in her mailbox.
The problem here is that while many members of Congress attend the big Met Gala, the tickets are always offered, not solicited.
The moment you ask, you broke the law…
NEW – Office of Congressional Ethics report just released by House Ethics finds Rep. Carolyn Maloney "may have
solicited or accepted impermissible gifts associated with her attendance at the Met Gala." If she did so this could violate House rules, standards of conduct & the law pic.twitter.com/ph2nOnuMdF— Nicholas Wu (@nicholaswu12) November 21, 2022
Maloney got short-changed in the redrawing of districts this year, being forced to face off against Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.).
She obviously lost, ending a three-decade career in the House.
