Alejandro Mayorkas finally got around to closing the corral gate, long after the herd of Tajik terrorists stampeded free. The region they come from has long been considered a “recruiting hotbed” for ISIS-K but Immigration and Customs Enforcement didn’t bother to vet them ahead of release. They preferred to wait until the terrorists actually did something first.

Mayorkas issues orders

The Biden administration, meaning Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, “is scrambling to stop migrants from an ISIS recruiting hotbed from being released into the U.S. after they cross the border,” New York Post relates.

On Wednesday, July 10, they also pointed out that “hundreds” already poured in. Not to mention those notorious Tajik 8.

In the past few weeks, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers finally got the orders they’ve been begging for. Migrants from Tajikistan, Mayorkas belatedly suggests, “shouldn’t be released from custody.

So called “Tajik” nationals are really “Persian” which means “Iranian.” Also, Tajik nationals are nomads who roam all over Afghanistan and Uzbekistan besides Tajikistan.

From now on, Mayorkas insists, before any ISIS operatives are to be set free in America “they need to be interviewed by intelligence officials first.” That doesn’t mean they won’t be set free, though.

Former DHS official Tom Homan colorfully called the new order “an attempt to close the barn door after eight Tajik nationals were arrested in New York, Los Angeles and Philadelphia for suspected ISIS ties.

The region they come from has long been considered a “recruiting hotbed” for ISIS-K.

Damage already done

To Homan, “it seems like the damage is already done.” He empathizes with the rank and file border agents. “I appreciate they’re trying to do what they can after the fact.” It’s a classic case of I told you so.

The bottom line is, if they would turn on the Trump policies, secure the border, end catch and release, they’d be a hell of a lot safer.” Mayorkas didn’t get that memo.

Even though “Tajikistan has become a major recruiting source for ISIS and its affiliate ISIS-K,” at least “1,500 Tajik migrants are known to have crossed the southern border between October 2020 and May 2024.

That number didn’t come from Mayorkas or his staff, it came from “leaked border data obtained by The Post.” This year, so far, they caught 500 of them. Putting that in perspective, “during the previous 14 years, just 26 Tajiks were caught crossing.

Last month, DHS got blindsided by the DOJ when the FBI arrested the “Tajik 8.” ICE had no idea where to find any of them until the bureau tipped them off that they were planning a domestic terror attack involving explosives.

Meanwhile, out of those 500 “caught crossing,” it’s not clear how many were released on parole. The standard procedure set by Mayorkas is give them a court date several years from now and set them loose.
