She Pulled Into the Wrong Driveway…and It Cost Her Life

The car pulling into his driveway turned 65-year-old Kevin Monahan into a grumpy old man who instantly started blasting. Without thinking, he tragically killed 20-year-old Kaylin Gillis. Monahan can expect to spend the rest of his retirement behind bars over a split instant of really poor judgment. That’s not the first case of the kind this week. Ralph Yarl’s killing also has Americans certain that civilization really is collapsing around our ears.

Car in wrong driveway

A car in your driveway is not a threat. Senior citizens have a lot to fear from anarchist marauders these days but there has to be a valid threat before armed homeowners can responsibly exercise the use of deadly force.

Second Amendment advocates are quick to insist that the guns aren’t killing people, all on their own. They’re totally right. It’s idiots who pull the trigger for “offensive,” rather than defensive purposes, who need to be regulated and controlled.

The driveway in question happens to be located in upstate Hebron, New York and the incident happened Saturday night, April 15. Ms. Gillis is described as a resident of Saratoga County. She was minding her own business as a passenger in a car with “three pals.

They were “searching for a friend’s house” and “made a wrong turn into a driveway,” the Washington County Sheriff’s Office relates.

They had already backed out and were leaving. That’s when barbarian killer Kevin Monahan, opened fire from the patio of his violated castle.

He fired at least two shots at the car and at least one bullet hit Gillis, killing her. Police soon arrested him and booked him in on second-degree murder.

A very sad case

According to Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy at a Monday press conference, “this is a very sad case of some young adults who were looking for a friend’s house and ended up at this man’s house who decided to come out with a firearm and discharge it.

He had no valid reason to shoot at the car but he did anyway, just to soothe his injured ego. The girls drove to a neighboring town before they could get enough of a cell signal to contact help.

By the time first responders reached their current location, Ms. Gillis had passed away. The group was totally in shock. Sheriff Murphy confirms that the group of girls did not interact with Mr. Monahan in any way.

He also verified that they “never left the car.” They were only in the driveway long enough to look at directions and turn around. As the sheriff notes, only a “very short time.

The scene of the shooting is “very rural with many dirt roads” The sheriff explains it’s easy for a car to get lost. “There’s clearly no threat from anyone in the vehicle. There’s no reason for Mr. Monahan to feel threatened.” He wasn’t real friendly to deputies either. “When deputies arrived at the home, Monahan, a laborer, was allegedly uncooperative.

As New York Post notes, “He refused to leave his home for over an hour.” Sheriff Murphy says that was “a bit of a situation,” but they managed to get him in cuffs. Local papers report “investigators don’t believe mental illness or alcohol are factors in the shooting.
