The Georgia State Republican Party is calling for an investigation into the state officials responsible for attributing false quotes to President Trump which were later repeated in the media and presented as evidence in his second impeachment. Here come the consequences of Raffensperger’s failure to stop the steal. The quotes were attributed to a phone call between President Trump and Georgia Secretary of State chief investigator Frances Watson, the full audio of which was released last week prompting a rare retraction from the Washington Post as the new audio exonerated Trump completely.
The DailyWire reports,
“The State Executive Committee of the Georgia GOP passed a resolution last week calling for an investigation into Deputy Secretary of State Jordan Fuchs, Secretary of State chief investigator Frances Watson, and others over the scandal. The party announced the resolution on Friday.”
The State of Georgia GOP’s resolution described the allegations,
“WHEREAS, it has been reported that the chief investigator for the Secretary of State secretly recorded a telephone conversation with President Donald J. Trump and further reported Deputy Secretary of State Jordan Fuchs mischaracterized the contents of that conversation in a series of anonymous news interviews; and
WHEREAS, the subsequent false reporting was used as “evidence” by Democratic Members of Congress in the second impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump; and
WHEREAS, persons unknown within the Office of Secretary of State attempted to destroy the secret recording which contradicted Deputy Secretary of State Jordan Fuchs’ reported mischaracterization of the contents of that call;”
The resolution concluded “the Georgia Republican Party hereby calls on the Office of the Inspector General of State of Georgia and the appropriate legislative committees of the Georgia General Assembly to investigate the governmental personnel involved in the aforementioned actions.” they further called upon Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger who aligned himself against the investigations into the severely compromised 2020 elections to “issue a statement repudiating the reported aforementioned misrepresentation and attempted destruction of evidence and to relieve from power those engaged in this conduct no later than March 24, 2021.”
The Revealed Recording of Trump Fighting to Stop The Steal
Multiple outlets in addition to the Washington Post including CNN attributed several fraudulent quotes claiming that they were uttered by President Trump. They claimed he told investigator Watson to “find the fraud” and that she would be “a national hero” if she did. CNN attempted to soften the fraudulent nature of these ‘quotes’ in their half-hearted retraction.
An earlier version of this story, published January 9, presented paraphrasing of the President’s comments to the Georgia elections investigator as direct quotes. The story has been updated following the discovery of an audio recording of the call. Read more here.
As remarkably dishonest as CNN and WaPo’s reporting was, the lie began in the offices of the Georgia Secretary of State. An in depth investigation is definitely in order, and eventually Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger will either meet his party in impeachment or meet his voters in recall or a primary challenge. President Trump announced Monday that he is supporting former Republican Congressman Jody Hice in a primary bid to defeat him. The consequences of “the steal” in Georgia will be widespread and long lasting.
