Arms Cache Revealed as Cops Raid Harris Suspect

Booby trapping an anti-Harris political sign with razor blades and a suspicious white powder appears to be Jeffrey Michael Kelly’s call for help. Tempe, Arizona, police answered that call by hooking his car from behind with their grappler. When they did, he was likely on his way to create some sort of mayhem. They found a lot heavier weaponry in his car than the BB gun and .22 he allegedly used to shoot up the local Democrat HQ. In his garage, they found an arms collection worthy of a sovereign citizen, so they’re treating him like one. He has a lawyer who denies everything.

Booby-trapped political sign

What started with an anti-Harris political sign, edged with razor blades and fringed with intimidating baggies of white powder, escalated, then ramped up another level, then took the elevator. It ended with 60-year-old Jeffrey Michael Kelly in custody. The prosecutor is convinced he was on his way to shoot something or someone. Probably several someones.

The paperwork is playing that up. His lawyer is denying all the charges and insisting his client is a simple and harmless Second Amendment loving gun collector. Who just happened to have a machine gun in his back seat.

Actually, such a scenario isn’t all that uncommon in the Ahwatukee Foothills suburb of metropolitan Phoenix. Kelly’s neighbor describes him as a “January 6” kind of guy. He’s not alone around there. On Wednesday morning, federal agents hauled away “more than 100 firearms,” which isn’t considered overly excessive in those parts.

The collection included “machine guns,” which also isn’t unheard of. The silencers and rocket launcher were a little over the top. The armed and dangerous political sign or six he posted does tend to indicate he might not be as properly medicated as he could be.

Kelly was observed posting anti-Democrat signs at various locations near his home on Monday evening and into Tuesday morning. They were lined with razor blades in case a liberal would try to tear them down. If that weren’t enough discouragement, each sign had “plastic bags containing a white powdery substance” attached.

They were thoughtfully labeled “biohazard.” One taunted “Bleep you! Play stupid games win stupid prizes! Guess the poison.” It wasn’t anthrax, fentanyl or Sweet and Low. Whoever had the square for “baking powder” wins the prize.

He was likely on his way to create some sort of mayhem.

Tempe Democrat offices

Before he started his political sign campaign, Kelly is accused of shooting up a “Democratic Party office in Tempe.” Not once, but three times since late September.

Sometime between midnight and 1 a.m., he would allegedly roll past “the office near Southern Avenue and Priest Drive, north of the Arizona Mills Mall.” From his car, he would shoot at the windows. He started with a BB gun, then switched to a .22 for better effect.

Kelly had the satisfaction of knowing he caused the Arizona Democrats to close their field office. It didn’t last long. It was surveillance video from those shooting incidents which led the Tempe police to his vehicle.

It was tricky because he’d been driving a different car. One that’s under a blanket in his garage. “Exactly how they narrowed in on Kelly was not made plain in the document released Wednesday.” The sign incidents probably helped narrow things down.

The bio-hazard label on the baking powder was enough to get Kelly charged with terrorism. He’s being charged with three counts of “committing an act of terrorism.” Along with four other felonies. The sign trapping republican has a good lawyer.

Jason Squires relates that “Kelly was an aerospace engineer with a high level of clearance that allowed him to have illegal weapons, such as machine guns.” Not only that, “he worked at a sportsman’s club and gun range in Mesa.” See you in court. He’s out on $500,000 bail with an ankle bracelet.
