A Washington State Senator has gotten himself into some real trouble.
So much so, he has been detained in China.
Republican state Sen. Jeff Wilson of Washington was arrested and charged with gun charges in China.
My Mistake
Wilson was arrested for having a handgun in his carry-on luggage.
He claims it was an innocent mistake.
Initial reports from China stated that the gun was found during a security bag check once he arrived in China.
Wilson stated that he reached into his bag to get some gum when he felt the gun.
He then claims that after he landed, he immediately told authorities about the weapon in his bag.
Now, I am not saying that I agree with the Chinese version, but I surely find it hard to believe that he “accidentally” took a gun on a plane.
Wilson was arrested, released on bail, and forced to forfeit his passport.
If found guilty, he may have to pay a fine and could be sentenced to as many as 14 years in prison.
As for how TSA missed the gun, the agency stated, “Firearms are not permitted in the secure area of airports and represents an expensive mistake for those who are stopped at checkpoints with firearms in their possession.
“The penalty for bringing a firearm to a TSA checkpoint may be as high as $15,000, and those stopped are ineligible for TSA PreCheck for up to five years.”
So, then why was the gun not detected when he went through TSA at his local airport?
