As we make our way into one full month of war between Israel and Hamas, shocking new video footage has been released by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). The short clip, posted to X features hundreds of Gazan residents walking along the Salah a-Din road, many of whom have their hands up and are holding white flags.
This is all part of an effort by the IDF to open up humanitarian corridors for civilians in Gaza so they can evacuate and find safety from the ongoing conflict.
Avichay Adraee, spokesperson for the IDF in Arabic, opened up this corridor between 1 and 4 pm today. He also urged Gazans to follow their instructions and move south if they care about themselves and their loved ones, adding that Hamas leaders had already taken care of themselves.
Adraee stated, “If you care about yourself and your loved ones, head south according to our instructions. Rest assured that Hamas leaders have already taken care of themselves.”
This call comes as tensions continue to escalate between Israel and Palestine. The military has been warning those living in northern Gaza that it will be focusing its efforts on Gaza City – the heart of Hamas’ rule – which could put civilians at risk.
The situation came to a head on Saturday, November 4, when Salah a-Din was open for evacuation and Hamas allegedly took advantage of this by launching mortars and anti-tank guided missiles at troops who were trying to help civilians escape safely.
It is worth noting that Israel has accused Hamas multiple times of preventing Palestinians from leaving northern Gaza in order to use them as human shields around its bases of operations there.
