If we believe that Trump will follow what he did in 2016, we will not have an official announcement until about a week before the Republican National Convention for a Trump VP confirmation.
Some of those so-called insiders, however, believe the decision has been made.
In fact, at least one has already called it, believing Trump has picked his guy.
Burgum is the Man
Up until about a month ago, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum was not even mentioned.
At that point, the top contenders were Senators Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Marco Rubio (R-FL), Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), and Governor Kristi Noem.
There were a few other names out there, but these were easily the top five.
According to Commentary Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief John Podhoretz, the decision has been made, and the name is not even on that list.
Podhoretz stated that he is calling the race for Burgum.
We all know that Trump needs money for this election, and Burgum has come up big for him. Podhoretz is among those who believe Burgum has proven himself to Trump on this front, and he will be the pick.
Other than fundraising, however, what does Burgum bring to the table?
Like Trump, he is an older white man. He also hails from a state that Trump is going to easily win in the election.
Some might say that Burgum is more moderate, which is a plus, but Trump also gets that benefit from someone like Tim Scott.
Only Scott also brings the minority vote with him, something that Trump desperately needs.
I like Burgum, and if Trump can get him in his administration, he should, but I am not sold that he is the best of the bunch for VP in terms of adding votes to the ticket.
