A new financial report to the FEC revealed Sunday that President Trump’s Super PAC: Save America has gathered a staggering $31.2 million in donations. This PAC has been created to ensure that the MAGA policy vision continues to be a force in American politics and provides a platform for Trump supporters to donate to politicians who remained loyal to the cause and challenge those who did not. This type of fund-raising and centralized political action is going to flip the game board for the 2022 mid-term election.
According to Politico,
“Save America, a leadership PAC created in the aftermath of the 2020 election, is set to play a key role in Trump’s plans to keep a strong hand in party politics — both to boost loyalists and also to seek retribution against Republicans he believes have wronged him, such as the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump in mid-January.”
Possible Long-Term Goals for the Super PAC
Many on Twitter have suggested that the true goal of the #SaveAmericaPAC is to establish a deep war-chest to run another enter another member of the Trump family into the political fray. Some have suggested this could be a launch pad for Ivanka Trump or Donald Trump, Jr. However, the most likely outcome is a 2nd Term run for President Donald Trump assuming that he can defeat his 2nd Impeachment attempt which seems likely after Rand Paul’s vote to dismiss demonstrated no support for conviction. The NZHerald reports, “While the money can’t be used on any of his own future political campaigns, they can go towards national travel, funding his own advisers and on midterm election campaigns.”
Likely Short-Term Goals
In the short run up to 2022, the ten Republicans-In-Name-Only (Reps. Cheney, Gonzalez, Herrera-Beutler, Katko, Kinzinger, Meijer, Newhouse, Rice, Upton and Valadao) in the US House of Representatives and the five Senators (Senators Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney, Ben Sasse, and Pat Toomey) who have so far blocked dismissal of the impeachment will almost certainly face #SaveAmericaPAC funded primary challenges.
“The more money [he] stacks up in his committee, the greater his grip will remain on many elected Republicans who will fear those resources could be turned against them,” Republican consultant Rob Stutzman told Politico.
The writing is on the wall, and Rep. Liz Cheney who has vocally opposed the President has already found herself in the Super PAC’s sights. As Politico concluded noting, “The former president has already used Save America to target Republicans he sees as disloyal. The PAC’s most prominent target thus far has been Rep. Liz Cheney, the House Republican Conference chair and the most prominent GOP impeachment supporter. Save America commissioned and circulated a poll that purportedly found Cheney’s political standing under siege in Wyoming after her vote.”
