The former president, Donald Trump, is currently undergoing a criminal case in the District of Columbia.
The judge presiding over the case recently issued one of her first and most important decisions, denying a request to delay a hearing on a possible protective order past the Friday deadline she had set.
Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team was ready for the hearing any day this week but the Trump attorneys asked for a delay due to their own tight schedules.
This decision was preceded by an order issued Saturday evening by Federal District Judge Tanya Chutkan requiring that President Trump respond to the motion filed by Special Counsel Jack Smith by 5pm on August 7th.
This filing showed evidence from a social media post made by former president, Donald J. Trump himself as indicative of why there is such urgency surrounding the need for protective orders in this particular case – “If You Go After Me, I’m Coming After You” were his exact words according to his Truth Social account at the time of publishing.
The proposed order seeks only to prevent improper dissemination or use of discovery materials including releasing them into public domain – something which could have potentially adverse effects on witnesses and overall fairness in this certain case if done so without proper authorization and approval from court officials themselves.
It would also be available for people employed primarily with assisting defense efforts like interviewing potential witnesses and other individuals whom courts may authorize disclosure to.
Although it must be noted that even then they can not keep copies without prior permission from court officials themselves first.
In response to these new developments, former president Donald J.Trump issued a statement through his Truth Social account stating that what he wrote initially was merely political speech in response to RINO groups.
When it came time for actual hearings however, his attorneys requested more time before appearing mostly due to both John Lauro and Todd Blanche already being preoccupied with other matters.
