Man Killed In Cement Mixer Accident

There is a reason many radio programs have a “Florida man” segment, from the funny to the bizarre extreme stories leak out of the Florida everglades and sand coasts like no other state. Unfortunately, some stories have a tragic ending.

In recent news from the sunshine state, a man was killed after a work accident involving a cement mixer.

The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. at Foley Products Company on 2900 N Highway 95A near Quintette Road in Cantonment, Florida.

First responders and law enforcement from Escambia County, reported that a man was working in a cement mixer when it was turned on. It is believed that the man then became entangled inside of it, disoriented and unable to call for help.

Officials initially claimed that the entangled man suffered severe traumatic injuries and that rescue workers had to extricate him from the machine. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Escambia County Public Safety Director, Eric Gilmore, says they are still working to remove the man’s remains from the cement mixer.

“We’re waiting for the proper authorities to do what they need to for their investigative pieces. Once they’re done and turn the scene back over to us, we’ll remove the victim and go from there,” Gilmore said.

The investigation included Escambia County Sheriff’s Office’s Crime Scene Unit. The Unit was at the scene of the accident investigating what happened for around an hour.

At this time no further details have been released and the investigation is still ongoing.
