Congressional Democrats are preparing to declare “unconditional war.” Thankfully they aren’t attempting to start a third world war with Russia (yet), instead, the Democrats want to declare a national war on “racism” and launch a campaign to exterminate it with the creation of a “Department of Reconciliation” inspired by similar “truth and reconciliation” programs in South Africa and Canada. It may not be a shooting war, but this is still grim news for America.
War on racism
House Resolution 919, introduced by Texas Democrat Al Green, invokes Lyndon B. Johnson’s “unconditional war on poverty,” which it claims was a resounding success.
The proposal may seem like a product of the leftist fringe, but the idea has actually become a central feature of the Democratic platform and liberalism in America in general.
The resolution calls for the creation of a Department of Reconciliation which will be given a budget equivalent to “not less than 10 percent” of the budget given to the Department of Defense.
The Defense Department has a gargantuan budget, so even ten percent of what taxpayers spend on the department would give this new anti-racism department an obscenely huge pile of money each year.
This is concerning enough, but the proposal goes far beyond simply taking your money; the heart of the resolution is the idea that the United States needs its own truth and reconciliation commission à la South Africa.
Anyone who knows anything about the state of South Africa in the 21st century should know that this would be a very, very bad development for white Americans.
An exquisitely bad idea
The world largely said “mission accomplished” and moved on after South Africa ended apartheid and launched its Truth and Reconciliation Commission, but the results haven’t quite been the rosy picture of harmony and healing advocates like to paint.
The formerly stable country now is now one of the most racially divided and violent crime-ridden on the planet. It turns out that given the entire population a public forum to discuss their racial animosities hasn’t produced peace and stability.
The “unconditional war on racism” would create an entire federal department with an absurdly inflated budget which is dependent on finding racism to justify its own existence.
It’s easy to predict the outcome, which would see the new department inevitably redefining racism and persecuting normal Americans to show the need for taxpayer funding.
On an even more fundamental level, we should remember that even real racism is not illegal; this country is still supposed to defend freedom of speech even if the speech is unpleasant.
All of this is unsurprising for the Democrats in 2022, but any Republican who even considers offering their support to this resolution deserves to be thrown out of the GOP. Hopefully that won’t need to become a dilemma for the party.
