There was a story last week that may have slipped through the cracks.
The appellate court, in its infinite wisdom, overturned the rape conviction of Harvey Weinstein.
Believe it or not, this could also pose a problem for Alvin Bragg in the Trump case.
Horrible Decision
This is a matter of prosecutors and judges not knowing the law.
The appellate court ruled to overturn Weinstein’s rape conviction because of evidence presented by prosecutors and allowed the judge in the case.
Testimony from other alleged victims was permitted even though they were not technically relevant to the charges in that particular case.
So, the court ruled 4-3 to overturn the rape conviction, which rightfully created outrage around the nation.
I just hope Trump’s attorneys were paying attention to this if Donald Trump still plans on testifying in the hush-money case.
I say this because Judge Merchan has ruled in favor of Bragg introducing evidence and testimony from Trump’s other cases so Bragg can discredit Trump’s testimony.
If that happens, we would see any conviction overturned along the same grounds.
I mean, this is high school law class information in that only evidence relevant to the charges being faced can be presented during the trial.
Even if the cases are similar, that has nothing to do with the case at hand.
If Bragg manages to get a conviction, then the verdict is dismissed on appeal, I think the entire left in this country would have a meltdown of epic proportions.
