Disgraced attorney Michael Avenatti had another 15 minutes of fame with the Trump hush-money case.
Avenatti, who represented Stormy Daniels until he ripped her off, has been doing interviews during the trial.
At the same time, his appeal for his criminal conviction just came up, but he was just informed that the appeal was rejected.
Staying in Jail
When I saw how Avenatti tried to argue the appeal, it was no wonder the Supreme Court rejected his case.
In question was the shakedown of Nike by Avenatti.
According to Avenatti, his conduct during the Nike negotiations was typical “litigation conduct,” therefore, he never should have been prosecuted.
His filing stated, “The courts of appeals are divided on the question, but as the majority have reasoned, litigation is a socially preferred form of dispute resolution, and exposing litigants to criminal sanctions disserves that policy.”
Initially, Avenatti was representing a client who claimed that Nike was paying amateur athletes illegally (keep in mind, this was before the new rule that now allows amateurs to earn money before turning pro).
Avenatti then threatened to go public with the case unless Nike secured his services for a mere $25 million.
He was clearly not acting in the best interests of his client, so the court could not accept this appeal.
Avenatti has been in prison since 2022, having been charged and convicted on numerous charges, including obstruction and embezzling from clients.
He was sentenced to 19 years in prison for his crimes.
Even so, the media appears to have fallen in love with him again, having him on several shows for interviews for his take on the Trump hush-money case.
