A business owner had a great idea.
Instead of a usual coffee shop, why not dress the girls up bikinis to drive traffic.
Well, it worked, and we have seen these types of cafes opening up all over the country since.
In Washington state, however, it was considered illegal.
The bikini baristas were told to cover up, but they fought back!
Not Happening
One ordinance prohibited the employees from revealing midriffs, breasts, and upper legs.
Cops came by and issued violations, but the owner of the coffee bar decided to stand up.
City Council basically accused these women of being prostitutes, but the judge did not agree.
All of the ordinances were aimed at clothing worn by women, which is how this case against the baristas fell apart.
Natalie Bjerke, one of the baristas at the café, stated, “The city council should not dictate what I can wear at work, it infringes on my First Amendment rights.”
In his ruling, Judge Martinez concluded, “This Ordinance was passed in part to have an adverse impact on female workers at bikini barista stands… The bikini barista profession, clearly a target of the Ordinance, is entirely or almost entirely female.”
It sounds to me like the locals are just a bit too uptight…
For now, the bikini-clad workers can continue to serve up that creatively packaged caffeine.
