Donald Trump is trying to make one more push to have Judge Juan Merchan removed from the Stormy Daniels hush money case in New York.
Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg slapped Donald Trump with more than 30 felony charges for entries made into company ledgers regarding the payments.
Trump has been unable to get this case delayed, but he is going to take one more stab at it.
Remove the Judge
Merchan has ruled against Trump in virtually every motion he has made, and I fully expect him to rule against Trump on this issue as well.
Trump wants Merchan removed due to the business venture of his daughter, Loren, who runs a digital advertising agency that primarily works with Democrats.
Not only that, but those Democrats are fundraising off Trump’s legal problems, which is where the conflict of interest comes in.
Trump’s attorneys argued, “Personal political views may not be a basis for recusal.
“But profiting from the promotion of a political agenda that is hostile to President Trump, and has included fundraising solicitations based on this case, must be.
“Accordingly, President Trump respectfully requests that the Court recuse itself.”
Bragg countered the motion by arguing that Trump has made this filing before and nothing has changed since, so this motion should be denied.
As I stated above, I expect Trump to lose this motion, but I also expect him to appeal the ruling in the hopes of having the case delayed until the appeals process plays out.
If Trump is unsuccessful, this case is slated to start on April 15, so the case would clearly be concluded before the general election, possibly costing Trump support with a guilty verdict.
However, if Trump loses this motion and then files an appeal, I don’t see how it would be possible for the case to go on as scheduled if there is a chance that the judge on the case could be replaced if Trump’s is successful down the road.
