When Donald Trump was on the campaign trail back in 2016, he agreed firmly with Jeff Sessions that all drugs are bad and the only policy is the one recommended by Nancy Reagan after she got out of rehab. “Just say no.” Since then, Trump’s taken the issue under advisement and reconsidered his position on cannabis. Seeing the beneficial effects that medical marijuana have had on some of his personal friends cured him of his reefer madness. That will be a big help to his chances for election success in some of the swing states. Sessions ended up with his face on custom rolling papers, against his will.
Trump embraces cannabis
You won’t see Once and Future President Donald Trump toking up on some dank chronic like Hunter Biden’s lawyer Kevin Morris but at least he’s no longer insisting it stay criminalized.
Coming into the 21st century and ditching the superstition, our favorite candidate “shocked political observers last week when he appeared to change his position on legalizing marijuana.”
Instead of recommending anyone who tokes be shot through the lungs for the offense, considering realistic legalization measures could “become a political jackpot” for Trump. The poll numbers aren’t the only statistics he’s been following.
“New surveys suggest voters in the ‘Blue Wall‘ states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania could be swayed by Trump’s ‘green‘ opinion on cannabis.”
On August 31, Trump noted on Truth Social that he wants to focus enforcement efforts on violent crime, not persecuting adults for personal amounts of marijuana.
All he wants to see is “laws that prohibit the use of it in public spaces, so we do not smell marijuana everywhere we go.” Fair enough.

Pure cannabis with confidence
There’s no need, Trump acknowledges, to “ruin lives and waste taxpayer dollars arresting adults with personal amounts of it on them.” By regulating cannabis, consumers can be sure they’re getting pure cannabis, not something laced with fentanyl on the street.
“No one should grieve a loved one because they died from fentanyl laced marijuana.” Other poll numbers confirm “Americans broadly support marijuana legalization.”
Trump has always been big on state’s rights and this is no exception. The states have already been hammering out cannabis control legislation which works for their communities. He lives in Florida, so focuses on the plans that state has when looking for examples.

His big priority is not being exposed to unwanted fumes and that’s a valid point. Responsible consumers can accept the condition not to pollute the atmosphere for others in exchange for not looking over their shoulder on the way home from Fred down the street with their stash.
Another option on the table is simply de-scheduling marijuana at the federal level. “It’s currently a Schedule I controlled substance — the same as heroin, LSD and ecstasy.”
There is a measure working its way through the DOJ and DEA to move it down to Schedule III. Trump isn’t against that but can’t use it to his advantage because the hearing on that is set for December and “that’s after the election, and too late for voters who care about the issue.“
