His Decision Has Sparked Republican Outrage

As you are reading this, Speaker McCarthy (R-CA) is doing the media circuit and slapping himself on the back.

McCarthy was ecstatic that he got bipartisan support for the debt ceiling legislation.

He may think this is a win, but based on the number of Republicans that did not support the legislation, the future is not bright for McCarthy.

At What Cost

McCarthy’s legislation passed the House with a 314-117 vote.

There were actually more Democrats (165) that voted for the bill than Republicans (149).

There were 71 votes against the bill, and that is going to be a problem for McCarthy.

Remember, when McCarthy won the speakership in the House, there were provisions that would make it far easier for members to have him removed.

Based on that vote, there would still not be enough support to remove McCarthy, but the number against him is surely growing.

To make matters worse, McCarthy is also being called out by several Republicans in the Senate.

Adding even more gasoline to this fire is the fact that McCarthy was very smug and dismissive of Republicans in the House that did not like the deal.

He knew he had enough support among Democrats that he only needed minimal support from the GOP.

That attitude will get you tossed… so our boy McCarthy is clearly playing with fire right now.
