At the time the driver got out of the vehicle, and Guider moved to the driver’s seat. Guider proceeded to start the car clearly indicating his willingness to run. The officer then pulled out his weapon.
While waiting for other police officers to arrive for backup, McCarty jumped on the hood of the car as Guider continue to move the vehicle forward.
On Bodycam footage the officer can be heard yelling, “Stop the f—ing car!” at the driver.

Officer McCarty was able to hold on until the vehicle hit a ditch, causing him to fall to the ground and break his back. Guider was arrested and pleaded guilty to serious injury by a vehicle. He claimed he feared for his life when McCarty pulled out his gun, however, the officer only pulled his gun out due to Guider getting into the driver seat of the car and trying to flee.
“I feared for my life after the officer pull(ed) out his gun and jump(ed) on the hood of my car,” claimed Guider in a letter he wrote to the Carroll County clerk of court in February.
