Luxury fortresses are the latest trendy fad among the wealthy. No self-respecting billionaire lives anywhere without a bunker in the basement. Nuclear Armageddon is only one of the threats facing the world, today. There are also bio-hazards, kidnappers and roving mobs of socialists out to “eat the rich.” As an intermediate option to being sealed away behind blast doors there are ways to fortify above-ground spaces, too. Things like “windows that laugh in the face of a sledgehammer.”
Post-Apocalyptic luxury
If you’re going to invest in a state of the art secure environment, don’t skimp on the luxury features. You won’t have anything else to spend that money on until civilization returns. It’s much better to have a moat you can race jet-skis on.
To the average billionaire, “it’s not just about living large — it’s about surviving the apocalypse in style.”
The basement panic room is so last millennia. “Now, the ultra-wealthy are turning their palatial homes into state-of-the-art fortresses, complete with all the bells and whistles to fend off everything from intruders to the end of civilization.”

Veteran luxury security expert Al Corbi runs Strategically Armored & Fortified Environments. His crew “has been catering to the needs of the super-rich for half a century.”
Any mansion can be equipped with “blast-proof doors, biometric systems, and even moats designed for jet-skiing.” Some clients prefer the luxury of “private clinic and pharmacy components.”
Face it, life may be comfortable, safe and secure underground but you’re not going anywhere. “If you’re going to be able to survive underground, we want you to be having fun,” Corbi relates.
A penchant for watersports
Corbi was able to say a few things about one of his latest luxury projects. “a sprawling, top-secret estate nestled in 200 acres of U.S. wilderness.” He’s not saying where. Sure, it has the obligatory “blast-proof doors, windows that laugh in the face of a sledgehammer and a biometric entry system that makes James Bond’s gadgets look outdated.” The thing which gets everyone’s attention is the moat. It’s 30 feet deep.
“Look at medieval times, a moat is one of the greatest deterrents. They didn’t have jet skis back then.” His client is “an adrenaline junkie with a penchant for watersports” who “plans to use it as his personal race track.”
When you have the money, you’re going to be buying a fortress for security and basic survival, so the luxury additions are really necessities. The bunkers are “built for comfort and entertainment, reflecting the escalating paranoia among the rich about threats ranging from climate change to pandemics.”

The “uber-wealthy have always been targets, whether it’s kidnappers, activists or angry mobs looking to ‘eat the rich.‘” Go ahead and splurge on the luxury. “Forget nuclear bombs, the thing we should be prepping for is real life,” Corbi declares.
Mark Zuckerberg has a new “underground lair in Hawaii, which includes a 5,000-square-foot bunker.” His buddies “couldn’t scramble fast enough to beef up their own homes.” Bill Gates has “doomsday shelters under all of his properties.” Even modest millionaires are getting into the luxury bunker craze, “investing in secure spaces that double as lavish retreats.” Anyone can have a bulletproof bathroom.
“One client turned his entire 3,000-square-foot art gallery into a safe room, complete with its own power supply. Another had his home cinema outfitted as a bunker, complete with filtered air, secure doors and enough provisions to last a week.” Secret rooms and hidden passageways are stylish. “Companies like Creative Home Engineering in Arizona are making a killing installing rotating fireplaces that double as secret doors and phone booths that reveal slides to underground bunkers.“
