Shop NowThe Los Angeles suburb of Encino is going vigilante. The total lack of law enforcement has liberal California homeowners considering the unthinkable. Buying firearms. The neighborhood is also thinking about another option. Hiring security forces to use heavier weapons, professionally.
Encino embraces armed response
The residents of Encino, California, are as progressive as they come. They don’t mind donating huge chunks of their income to liberal causes in the form of sky-high taxes and regulatory fees. They were all onboard the police defunding bandwagon, when it was trendy.
Once spiraling crime started hitting close to home, the woke community woke up. If they don’t have cops to protect them, they’re on their own. That means, they suddenly realize, it’s time to start stockpiling guns.
Do it yourself vigilante justice remains distasteful to the left coast affluent residents of Encino. They aren’t movie-star wealthy enough to live in private enclaves but have enough bling to be targets. They suddenly realized that declaring the city a “gun free zone” might not be that great of an idea.
“Crime statistics show Encino is seeing far more burglaries than other parts of LA, with break-ins south of the 101 Freeway up 40% in the neighborhood in July. As burglars torment L.A. neighborhood, anxious residents consider buying guns, hiring security” https://t.co/o8D2FFK1q9

The ones who don’t want to pack heat themselves are considering paid security services, with the cost shared by the neighbors.
The vigilance committee plays a major role in California history. In the early days of the state, it was virtually cut off from the rest of the nation. The easiest way to get there, from someplace like Boston, was through Panama. When the gold rush brought millions from around the world, everyone, including the women, packed heat.
Standard dress for men, when Encino was founded, included mandatory Colt revolver and Bowie knife. Disputes were settled as they occurred. While there weren’t any appeals, the neighbors had a strict code of justice. If a killing wasn’t legitimate and on the level, they’d hang the guy for his mistake from the nearest tree. He won’t do that again and it sends a message to others.

Months of break ins
When the burglars are bold enough to terrorize the residents in their homes, not even waiting for them to be at work or out shopping, something’s not right. Encino residents are beginning to realize that the few police they have left aren’t there to protect them. All the police can do is call the meat wagon to pick up the bodies afterward.
They don’t even bother tracking down the criminals, simply put the information out on social media and offer a reward for information. Either a tip will come in or the suspect will get snagged in the middle of another crime. Either way, once arrested, prosecutors refuse to prosecute because that would be racist.
Months of reported break-ins have rattled the entire San Fernando Valley. “It’s all people seem to talk about while walking their dogs or in group text chats with neighbors.”

Encino (where I grew up) residents: “We’re buying guns.”

Many are buying guns but they’re also going around the block to chat about “a neighborhood watch” or “taking quotes from private security companies to patrol the streets.” Their multimillion-dollar castles in Encino suddenly don’t seem like much of a fortress.
Robert Glushon, president of the local Property Owners Association, is amazed. “In all my years working and living in Encino, I have never participated in conversations where people said, ‘Yeah, I’m going to go get a gun.‘ But now they are.” Statistics show they’re getting hit harder than LA. One female resident “reported hearing the sound of glass breaking in their home shortly after 12:30 a.m. By the time police arrived at the home on Firmament Avenue, the suspect or suspects were gone.”
According to the LAPD, “no one should have to live in fear in their own home, and our office is committed to doing everything we can to ensure the safety of all our residents.” It’s just not much. He recommends taking lessons to get familiar with your new arsenal. Gun control means hitting what you aim at, not an innocent bystander. Also, stockpile plenty of ammo because it’s in hot demand, especially in Encino.
