Teen flashes help sign
You may remember the story of this rescued teen which broke in July of 2023. She’s the one who held up the “Help Me” sign at a laundromat in Los Angeles. Good Samaritans saw her flashing it and did the right thing.
Perverted Texas rapist Steven Robert Sablan was sentenced to “decades behind bars” for kidnapping and repeatedly raping the 13-year-old girl.
Sablan didn’t bother trying to deny that he abducted the tender teen “at gunpoint in July 2023 in San Antonio.”
He sexually abused her all the way across Arizona, then molested her some more through California. All the way to the coast. His mistake was leaving her alone in the car while he did his laundry in LA.
The quick thinking teen obtained a piece of paper and used something bright red to scrawl a desperate “Help Me” sign. Thankfully, the passersby who saw it didn’t shrug it off as just another YouTube production.
She was 1,400 miles from home and had nobody else to rely on. “They acknowledged the note and immediately called 9-1-1.”
Threaten and control
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California has an office betting pool on his life expectancy from the time he enters prison. Odds favor hours or days rather than years.
Once the other inmates find out that “during the kidnapping, he sexually assaulted the child and used a firearm to threaten and control her” everyone will want to shower with him. They’ll likely treat him as a plaything, the same way he treated the innocent teen.
While most abused children know their abuser, the kidnapped teen had “no legal custody or familial relationship to the victim.”
The child was alone and vulnerable when Sablan spied his opportunity. He simply pulled up alongside her on the sidewalk, got out of his car and stuck his gun in her face.
At some point during the ordeal, Sablan eventually got around to asking her how old she was. He promised the teen “she could take a cruise to visit a friend in Australia.” If she was a good girl. She “had to do something for him first.”
As federal prosecutors emphasized, while Sablan spent three days abusing the young teen for his own pleasure, “her parents agonized over their missing child, fearing the worst. The worst was not far from reality.“
