The replacement of Attorney General Merrick Garland has been the most controversial issue recently facing President Donald Trump. While Matt Gaetz swears up and down that he’s not as kinky and depraved as alleged, he stepped aside to avoid scandalizing the president. It didn’t take long for the transition team to come up with another name guaranteed to infuriate Democrats. They won’t be able to claim Pam Bondi isn’t qualified. She previously served as Florida’s AG.
Bondi for Attorney General
Once the controversy surrounding Matt Gaetz got pushed to the side, Trump announced his pick of Pam Bondi as Attorney General. The “long-time ally and veteran prosecutor” shouldn’t have any problem at all being confirmed to lead the Department of Justice. The whole time Garland had the job he thought it was the Department of Just Us and acted like he was the one really running the country.
He may still be at his desk but he’s already gone. He’ll probably be on vacation from Thanksgiving until New Year’s. Then, the most he’ll do in the remaining two weeks before Trump’s sworn in is clean out his desk.
Not only has Bondi previously served as Florida’s attorney general, she has “a long track record in law enforcement.”
A proven Trump loyalist, “she was part of Trump’s legal team during his first Senate impeachment trial and also publicly supported him by showing up at court during his hush money trial in New York,” BBC explains to European readers.
Trump announced his choice on social media. “Pam was a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, where she was very tough on violent criminals, and made the streets safe for Florida families.” That’s what we’ve all been waiting to hear.
Once confirmed by the Senate, as Attorney General Bondi “will become the country’s chief law enforcement officer, in charge of the justice department’s more than 115,000 employees and roughly $45 billion budget.” One employee won’t be in that count for long. FBI director Christopher Wray.
Partisan and weaponized
Even before Trump came on the scene they had a heavy thumb on the scales of justice. “For too long, the partisan Department of Justice has been weaponized against me and other Republicans,” Trump posted Thursday evening, November 21. “Not anymore.”
Pam Bondi as Attorney General, he assures, “will refocus the DOJ to its intended purpose of fighting crime, and making America safe again.”
Putting a stop once and for all to the “weaponization” of government is one of Trump’s top priorities. Along with “protecting U.S. borders, dismantling criminal organizations and restoring Americans’ ‘badly-shattered faith and confidence‘ in the department.”
It will be a whole lot easier to get Ms. Bondi officially confirmed as Attorney General in the Senate than Gaetz.
Conservative Republican Senator Lindsey Graham predicts that Bondi “will be confirmed quickly.” No problem. Her nomination alone is a “grand slam, touchdown, hole in one, ace, hat trick, slam dunk, Olympic gold medal pick.”
The entire reason Trump picked Gaetz as Attorney General was to flip Merrick Garland the middle finger, he admitted. Despite his denials of Democrat accusations, Gaetz noted the controversy over his potential nomination “was unfairly becoming a distraction” to the work of the incoming Trump administration. The best way to help America and We the People is bowing out gracefully. He did.
