There were two separate drive by shootings at a military base Saturday morning. Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland is called “the Gateway to the Air Force.” The second shooting turned into a gun battle with reinforced guards. Police do not have any suspects. There still isn’t much information available, as of Saturday afternoon. We’ll update this developing story as it ripens.

Joint Base San Antonio

The most recent update available on the shooting at Joint Base San Antonio notes that the Chapman Training Annex “is resuming normal operations and re-opening its main gate.

The shootings happened “off-base” in front of the installations gate. Officials declare that “there is no threat to the installation.

The latest details the base provided are that “the incident involved unidentified members in a sedan shooting at members of JBSA security forces teams.

They’re letting the San Antonio Police Department handle the aggravated assault investigation.

Earlier in the afternoon it was reported that “multiple shooters targeted Air Force Security personnel working the entrance gate to the JBSA-Chapman Training Annex, located at Ray Ellison Boulevard and Medina Base Road.

That was based on “preliminary information” released by the cops.

Officials declare that “there is no threat to the installation.

Added more armed guards

Around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, August 17, the first drive by happened. Breaking reports noted “shooters reportedly attempted to enter through the main gate at the JBSA-Chapman Training Annex.

The base soon issued an update saying “further investigation confirmed shots were fired from the alleged shooter’s vehicle.” Security added reinforcements “as a precaution” and it was well warranted. The guards report hearing the rounds whiz past.

Just before 5 a.m. the guard shack was attacked a second time. “A sedan stopped on Median Base Road, east of the same entrance gate to the Chapman Training Annex, and shots were fired at the Air Force Security personnel a second time.

It’s not clear how many occupants the vehicle had. Nobody appeares to have been injured by the return fire.

Since 1946, the base has served “as the sole training center for new enlisted airmen.” Nobody is releasing details about the sedan but officials are happy to report that “there were no injuries as a result of the incident.

The “active shooters are not known to have any military affiliation, according to base officials” in an early statement.
