Goodhue, Minnesota is a small city located in the southeast part of the state.
Recently, Goodhue saw its entire police force suddenly resign.
Mayor Ellen Anderson Buck expressed shock but also affirmed that the city would still have police coverage.
Police Chief Josh Smith stated that he had been unable to find anyone willing to join the department due to low pay and competition from larger cities such as Minneapolis.
The root cause of this issue appears to be low pay for officers employed by the Goodhue PD.
Smith told officials that there was a lack of applicants despite his attempts to recruit young people into law enforcement positions within the area.
Chris Schmit, one Councilmember, praised past officers for their commitment and dedication to protecting and serving the community but also acknowledged that something needed change drastically and quickly in order for them to regain these services at an adequate level.
Minneapolis is currently home one of most important policing stories of recent times.
Officer Tou Thao was convicted for his involvement George Floyd’s death earlier this year and received a sentence.
The Goodhue City Council did not respond Fox News Digital’s request comment on current situation however it’s clear they need to address this issue to ensure residents safety and security are both maintained going forward.
