Florida had more migrants than they could use. So, they decided to fly a batch up to Martha’s Vineyard, where all the Democrat megadonors live. Folks like Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama weren’t rushing to the airport to greet their new neighbors. Instead of providing sanctuary, officials called in the National Guard and had them escorted right off the exclusive island. From there, the asylees were detained at a military base in Cape Cod.
Vineyard housing shortage
Affordable housing in Martha’s Vineyard? Lisa Belcastro laughed. She’s homelessness director on an island where the median home price is nearly $1 million.
Her office works real hard to be sure there aren’t any to worry about. Their focus is ensuring every unclaimed nanny, landscaper and dishwasher has a home somewhere else. They were overwhelmed when they got a handful because they were never expecting any.
Officials on Martha’s Vineyard quickly declared a “humanitarian emergency” and called the national guard. They heard a totally different response to the one Muriel Bowser was told. Instead of saying a flat no, 125 National Guard troops were instantly hustled over from Cape Cod to take charge of the offensive interlopers.

Within hours of their unannounced arrival, the 50 misplaced migrants were packed up on buses by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker “to travel the 32 miles to a Joint Base in Cape Cod.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis flew Venezuelans in to Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday, September 14, “sparking a widespread cry of outrage from the liberal leaders of the small island.”
They know how to handle a hot potato when someone tosses it at them, throw it someplace else. The group was “declared a humanitarian emergency, with the island leaders responding in the same way as a hurricane.” The first thing Lisa Belcastro said was “at some point they have to move somewhere else.”
Designated emergency shelter
The Venezuelan nationals aren’t sure if Joe Biden tricked them into coming to America. They got a free plane ride to take a tour of swanky Martha’s Vineyard, then arrested and locked in the Massachusetts version of Guantanamo. The Governor shrugs it off. You can’t have the riff-raff cluttering up the state.
The joint base, he notes, “is a facility already designated by MEMA as an emergency shelter in Barnstable County, and its existing infrastructure provides a safe temporary accommodation appropriate for the needs of families and individuals.”
Folks on Martha’s Vineyard are sleeping a lot sounder knowing that the migrants were hauled off to the mainland. How ghastly. They shouldn’t think of it as imprisonment, the governor counters. After all, “the facility can provide dedicated space for access to legal services and other essential services such as basic healthcare.”
Someplace where the millionaires can’t see it. The governor assures that “the migrants will be living in ‘dormitory-style spaces‘ at the base, and families will not be separated.”
Jhorman Cuicas, one of the migrants, didn’t want to get on a bus and go somewhere else. He liked it right there, telling reporters, “he wished that he could stay.” When a soldier in uniform orders you to get on the bus, you get on the bus. An hour and a half away from Martha’s Vineyard they were safely in Cape Cod. Senator Susan Moran is upset by the whole incident.
“Using vulnerable populations as pawns in a political game is heinous.” DeSantis isn’t backing down. “The minute even a small fraction of what those border towns deal with every day is brought to their front door, they go berserk, and they’re so upset that this is happening.“
