Democrat Leader Bails, Jumps Sinking Ship to Visit Freedom Loving Republican State

When the going gets tough…. the Governor bails out to Florida? Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, between dodging scandals like sending COVID+ patients to nursing homes and thus killing-off thousands of grandparents, mothers and fathers, or claiming she’s the target of militia kidnappers is catching some heat for going to Florida.

Whitmer has faced controversy and disgrace alongside NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo for her COVID19-nursing home policies and her utter lack of transparency. According to a statement from  Macomb County Prosecutor and former State Senator Peter Lucido released in August,

“more than 2,000 residents and 21 staff died in nursing homes, 32% of all deaths.” This figure could be even greater as the state of Michigan has continued to refuse requests for more precise data.

Whitmer Bails on Florida Trip Still Haunting Her

According to the Governor she took a flight to Florida at the height of the COVID panic to visit her ailing father, while her orders given just weeks prior led to so many mothers and fathers dying alone, deprived of the comfort of family. She warned the public not to take spring break trips, particularly to Florida

“It’s been 62 days since the secret trip. The story from the governor’s office keeps changing,” said GOP Communications Director Ted Goodman. The Michigan Republican Party accused the Democratic governor of hypocrisy. Goodman called it an “insult to every single Michigander impacted by her lockdown orders and travel warnings.”

“She made that trip at a time when COVID-19 cases were surging here in the state of Michigan,” Goodman said.

“When a family member of mine needs a little help though I’m going to show up, just like when we have a crisis here, we’re going to work 24/7 to keep the people of this state safe,” Whitmer said. “I took a brief trip from Friday to Monday. Two full days I was there,” she said. “This was a quick trip that I took. I think it’s important to know like a lot of children of parents who have health issues or relatives who have health issues, I showed up when I was needed.”

According to the Associated Press,

“House Appropriations Committee Chairman Thomas Albert, a Lowell Republican, said he understands the desire to visit an ill relative.

“But I have heard countless stories of heartbroken Michiganders who wanted to visit sick family members during this pandemic and haven’t been able to do so,” he said. “I don’t understand how the governor thinks it’s OK for her and members of her administration to travel out of state, while issuing recommendations to the rest of us that we stay home.”

“The only thing we have been looking for from the governor throughout this entire pandemic is transparency and I don’t think we feel that we’ve gotten that transparency that we deserve,” Linda Jenkins of the Bay County GOP said.

Sometimes being a public official means sharing in the pain of your people, and the people of Michigan were expected to sit at home and weep for their loved ones dying in hospitals and nursing homes mere miles away. Nobody cares if a Governor bails to Florida or Mexico or anywhere else… if they hold themselves to the same standard they enforce on their people.
