McEachin has represented Virginia’s Richmond area in the House since 2017 and had recently won reelection. Politico originally reported that McEachin won his seat back with 64.4% of the vote. Unsurprising since a majority of urban areas, and government employees are democrats and Virginia has increasingly become s suburb for the Washington, D.C. area.
Deeply saddened by the passing of Rep. Don McEachin.

The House seat of McEachin that now sits empty will be filled by a special election. The date of which will be set by Republican Gov. Glen Youngkin.
Tara Rountree, McEachin’s chief of staff, said the Congressman died from colorectal cancer. A form of cancer that starts in either the colon or the rectum. The two cancers can also be called colon cancer or rectal cancer individually, it all depends on where cancer originates start. Colon and rectal cancers are at times grouped together because they have many similar features.

“Valiantly, for years now, we have watched him fight and triumph over the secondary effects of his colorectal cancer from 2013,” Rountree said.
“Tonight, he lost that battle,” she continued.
No matter his political views our thoughts and prayers go out to the McEachin family as they mourn their loss, especially so close to the holidays.
