Breaking News: Mass Casualties Reported

After a semi-truck collided with a Ford Expedition, up to 20 people were involved in a crash that led to several deaths and many more injuries.

A mass casualty crash was reported in Imperial County, California just before 8 a.m. on the morning of March 2.

According to Battalion Chief Juan Rodelo of the City of Imperial Fire Department, the crash occurred on Highway 115 in Holtville, which is around 125 miles east of San Diego and 10 miles north of the Mexican border.

Just before 9 a.m., authorities announced that four patients had been rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. Three of the patients were sent to the intensive care unit, while the condition of the fourth victim has yet to be reported.

California Highway Patrol Officer Arturo Platero informed CNN that the Ford Expedition was traveling westbound on Norrish Road near Highway 115 when it traveled “in the direct path” of the semi-truck, which was traveling northbound on the highway.

The cause of the crash, which left at least 12 people dead, is currently being investigated.
