Did you ever, in all your days, think that gas stoves would become a national debate?
Well, they have.
This is thanks to a Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announcement regarding the hazards of owning a gas stove.
Ban It!
This administration loves banning things, especially when it comes to the fossil fuel industry.
Was I surprised that banning gas stoves was even on the table? Not really.
While not referring to any one study or citing specific data, the agency stated that banning gas stoves was a possibility.
Due to the impact this would have on the restaurant industry alone, the GOP pushed back.
Eventually, the White House reversed its support for the ban and the CPSC even backed off.
It stated, “CPSC is researching gas emissions in stoves and exploring new ways to address any health risks.
“CPSC also is actively engaged in strengthening voluntary safety standards for gas stoves.”
The American Gas Association AGA responded, “Any discussion or perpetuation of the allegations in this report which is funded by non-governmental organizations to advance their agenda to remove consumer energy choice and the option of natural gas is reckless.”
It added, “The authors conducted no measurements or tests based on real-life appliance usage, and ignored literature, including one study of data collected from more than 500,000 children in 47 countries that ‘detected no evidence’ of an association between the use of gas as a cooking fuel and either asthma symptoms or asthma diagnosis.”
