Officer thinks fast
On November 23, Lone Tree Police officer Jacob Tarr was working his way through a Denver suburb, on the lookout for a reported burglary suspect.
One who just happens to be among their regular frequent fliers. It didn’t take long to spot the career home invader.
Officer Tarr abandoned his cruiser to chase the suspect on foot. As soon as the perp spotted the heat, he “took off running and jumped several fences.”
The thrilling chase continued with the cop dogging behind in hot pursuit. Seeing an opportunity, the thief stole “a kid’s motorized scooter as his escape ride.”
Not to be outdone, Officer Tarr commandeered suitable personal transportation, to continue the pursuit. As bodycam video shows, Tarr quickly hopped “on a small green bike from a family’s yard.”
He was instantly “pedaling off down the street in pursuit of the alleged thief.”

Doorbell films the chase
Besides footage from Tarr’s bodycam, a neighborhood Ring doorbell camera “also filmed the moment the officer tore by on the comically tiny bike.”
Looking over his shoulder, the thief was beginning to think his scooter would be fast enough to evade the cop’s frantic pedaling. Then he turned around.
Officer Tarr was also equipped with a radio and there were other cops in the vicinity. As soon as the fleeing criminal started pulling ahead of the pursuing bike, he ran headfirst into another cop.
It was too late to change direction as Tarr was right on his heels. The suspect hasn’t been named publicly because his prior record is way too embarrassing to Denver officials. We know he had “three outstanding warrants — including one for an armed robbery.”
Lone Tree PD released a statement noting “when you’re a police officer on a mission to protect your citizens, nothing is going to stand in your way, even if your squad car is not near and your suspect is speeding away on a scooter.”
“When it comes to the men and women in blue and their vow to protect and serve, it’s not about the wheels you’re riding, but the heart and dedication behind them.” Officer Tarr deserves a big box of donuts.
