Shop NowDan Rather once again proved himself to be an absolute hack. It’s always hilarious when a reporter who yammers on about integrity but has absolutely no integrity himself falls flat on his face.
The former news anchor’s latest attempt to pursue political discourse and score points on social media was in response to a New York Times piece on the January 6th committee preparing possible charges against Donald Trump.
From the New York Times:
In a court filing in a civil case in California, the committee’s legal representatives for the first time laid out their theory of a prospective criminal case against the former president. They stated they had collected proof showing that Mr. Trump, the conservative attorney John Eastman and other allies could possibly be charged with criminal infractions including blocking an official case of Congress and conspiracy to defraud the American people.
The filing likewise said there was evidence that Mr. Trump’s duplicated lies that the election had actually been stolen amounted to common law fraud.
The filing revealed just limited new evidence, and the committee asked the judge in the civil case to review the pertinent product behind closed doors. In asserting the capacity for criminality, the committee largely counted on the comprehensive and comprehensive accounts currently made public of the actions Mr. Trump and his allies took to keep him in workplace after his defeat.
Dan Rather responded to all of this in a desperate attempt to stay relevant and try to highlight the importance of the news, but instead he fell flat on his face, much to everyone’s delight.
“There is a scene in Star Wars in a trash compactor. Reminds me what happens to the walls…” he tweeted.

The former news anchor’s tweet is referring to a scene in Star Wars: A New Hope, the original movie released in 1977 which kicked off the major franchise that maintains significant cultural relevance today. The scene he is referencing is one in which the heroes — Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Princess Leia — end up stuck in a trash compactor in the villains’ stronghold. After realizing that there was something alive inside the compactor with them, the walls begin closing in on them.
There is only one problem with Rather’s little analogy… While it seems like this scene spells doom for the heroes (the left’s favorite phrase during the Trump Era: “the walls are closing in”), they actually escape thanks to the droids that accompanied them.
Not only did Dan Rather compare Donald Trump to some of the most iconic action heroes in movie history who would go on to save the galaxy, but he compared the January 6th committee to a compactor full of trash, and alluded to the fact that Trump would be freed by other heroes.
Here’s the trash compactor scene for reference:
