The online retailer Amazon has made a huge decision — the company will be pulling out of Seattle, Washington — and the reason behind it is exactly what conservatives have been warning about.
Seattle is the perfect example of what happens when Democrats are in power for too long: crime is skyrocketing, and violent thugs practically run the streets.
There are currently around 1,800 employees working at the Seattle Amazon office. But it is unclear at the moment how many of them are being relocated versus how many have been laid off, as many of them have been working remotely since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic two years ago.
The rise in Seattle’s violent crime hit a new high on March 2nd, when 15 year old Michael del Bianco was shot and killed at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Pike Street, which is where Amazon’s office building is located.
Amazon will be removing workers from that downtown Seattle office so that the employees don’t have to travel to an area that’s seen a spate of shootings, carjackings and other violent crimes.
“Given recent incidents near Third and Pine, we’re providing employees currently at that location with alternative office space elsewhere,” an Amazon spokesman said in a statement via email. “We are hopeful that conditions will improve and that we will be able to bring employees back to this location when it is safe to do so.”
A spokesperson for Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell claimed that he is making public safety a priority, releasing a statement that said:
“Mayor Harrell will continue to develop a comprehensive approach to public safety in collaboration with police and safety advocates, community members, service providers, and businesses, including Amazon, to activate, revitalize, and restore downtown for all.”
