This incident can only be described as “a miracle.” Whether you believe in miracles and guardian angels or not, Father John Bok doesn’t need any convincing. He didn’t even notice while one “guardian angel” put in a good day’s work. As a former physics teacher turned priest, Fr. Bok analyzed the video and says it all comes down to a single pole being just the right size at just the right place to prevent total tragedy. Both for himself and the man having a seizure behind the wheel of the flying SUV.
A miracle on way to church
Father John Bok knows a miracle when he sees one. He was on his way to perform 9 a.m. Sunday Mass on October 2 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Milford, Ohio. His sermon topic of the day was guardian angels. He barely noticed the airborne SUV which jumped his car, because his own guardian angel was on the ball.
The 87-year-old priest suffers from blindness in his left eye which restricts his vision on that side but not enough to stop him from driving. He thought it was “a bird.” He had no idea how close he had come to death that morning until a cop showed him the video.
A video making the rounds of social media and going viral shows an “an SUV go off-road and then leap in the air, nearly missing the driver’s side of Bok’s vehicle.” All anyone knows about the driver of the flying SUV is that he’s a “young man” who had “apparently suffered a seizure while driving and had passed out.”
The vehicle barely cleared the priest’s car with about an inch to spare, landing back on all four wheels on the road. “Miracle” is the only word anyone has been able to come up with to describe it.
When an officer investigating the accident caught up with Fr. Bok after service while he was having lunch, Bok was astounded by what he was watching.
“I did not know that that car went over top of me because I was looking ahead and it was to my left and above. And out of the corner of my eye I sensed something went by, but I just thought it was a bird or something like that.” Video of the miracle in progress was captured by a funeral home across the street. Making things even more interesting, the police officer knows Fr. Bok.
Other driver ‘alright’
The officer was happy to relate to Fr. Bok that the “young man driving had been taken to a hospital and was alright himself.”
The priest couldn’t help making the connection that when the miracle occurred, he “was about to celebrate mass on the Catholic Feast of the Guardian Angels.” Keeping his sense of humor, Bok quips, “I don’t know what God was thinking.”
One thing is certain, Fr. Bok has no doubts about his faith. As far as he’s concerned, “it would’ve been a ‘win-win‘ either way: ‘Heaven is going to be better than here.’” The other driver wasn’t quite ready to encounter the afterlife so suddenly.

He’s awful glad that Fr. Bok’s guardian angel was watching over both of them and included him in the miracle as well. Fr. Bok is also “grateful and happy I’m still here, and it’s a mystery why I am when you look at that darn video.”
After Fr. Bok saw the clip, he told reporters “When I see it, I just scratch my head and say, ‘Thank you, Lord.”
In today’s world of chaos and mayhem taking over the 24/7 news cycle, it’s nice to be able to report a miracle for a change. It’s also nice to note that guardian angels have not been defunded and they’re not out on strike.
