House Speaker McCarthy (R-CA) has a major problem on his hands.
He has been unable to get Republicans on the same page for Defense spending.
Not only that but for the third time this term, he failed to get a rule passed in the majority House.
History Lesson
After the 2022 election, many of us wanted change in party leadership, McCarthy included.
McCarthy is now proving us all right.
Let me tell you how rare of a situation this is.
This is not something we have seen since Newt Gingrich was the House Speaker in 1995 and failed six times over four years to get rules passed.
McCarthy has now failed three times in eight months.
The last Speaker to have a rule fail left the House in 2007, so this is just not something that happens.
The Speaker and the Whip have the duty to ensure they have the support for any rule or legislation before they put it on the floor, and that is clearly not happening right now.
This falls on Speaker McCarthy, Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN), and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA).
I don’t care what rhetoric they are trying to feed people about a rogue caucus or members, this is on them for not doing their jobs.
We need change and we need it NOW!
