So, dig in a little, because I am about to take a little bit of a shot at Speaker McCarthy (R-CA).
To be clear, I do not support China on this and now that they have drawn a line in the sand, McCarthy really has no choice.
Having said that, my issue is that McCarthy was pushing for a trip to Taiwan in the first place!
The Hubris
The ego of these people to think that boots on the ground of a politician will stop China from doing what it is going to do regarding Taiwan.
This is McCarthy saying, well, Pelosi did it, so now I have to do it too.
It is idiotic, costly, and a complete waste of time.
Oh, and there is the fact that it will unnecessarily raise tensions with China at a time when our military stores are just about empty.
To that point, China responded to the announced McCarthy trip by stating, “We urge certain individuals in the U.S. to earnestly abide by the one-China principle.”
Then they indirectly spoke to McCarthy stating that they were “opposed to any official interactions with Taiwan.”
This trip is a massive undertaking by the Pentagon, which has to line up all kinds of military support, not to mention moving assets into the area just in case China decides to get cute.
Millions of dollars are getting flushed down the drain for what? So McCarthy can have a photo op on the ground in Taiwan.
Let me say this clearly… the man is an egotistical idiot for thinking this will make any difference on the positive side of things.
