In the evening hours of Nov. 6th a “suspicious white powder” was found at the campaign headquarters of Kari Lake in Phoenix.

A campaign spokesman confirmed to AZCentral that an unnamed staff member opened an envelope addressed to the campaign and discovered the white powder inside.

“It was one of two envelopes that were confiscated by law enforcement and sent to professionals at Quantico for examination, and we are awaiting details,” the spokesman told CNN reporters.

The full statement was tweeted by CNN’s Kyung Lah. Lake’s campaign wrote,

“Yesterday, a member of the Kari Lake staff opened an envelope delivered to our campaign office that contained suspicious white powder. It was one of two envelopes that were confiscated by law enforcement and sent to professionals at Quantico for examination, and we are awaiting details. The staff member is currently under medical supervision. Just two days before Election Day, our campaign headquarters remains shut down. We look forward to law enforcement completing their investigation as quickly as possible. Rest assured, we are taking this security threat incredibly seriously and we are thankful for the Phoenix PD, FBI, first responders, bomb squad, and HazMat crews that responded to this incident. In the meantime, know that our resolve has never been higher and we cannot be intimidated. We continue to push full speed ahead to win this election on Tuesday.”

According to The Daily Mail the envelopes also contained “abusive messages.”

An anonymous source allegedly told the Daily Mail, “Yesterday, one of Kari’s staffers opened up an envelope that had a suspicious white powder in it and had a letter in there with a bunch of vulgarities and ranting and raving about Kari. The employee then noticed a second package that was exactly like the first one she had opened and she reported it.”

Lake was not in the campaign headquarters at the time the parcel was opened, she was in Scottsdale at a campaign event at the time TheBlaze reported.

The staffer was held in medical supervision for an undisclosed period of time and Law Enforcement had the facility closed for investigation until 5 p.m. on Sunday TheBlaze wrote.

“When officers arrived, they learned there were suspicious items located inside the mail. Additional resources responded to collect the items and secure the area,” said Sgt. Phil Krynsky according to the outlet. “There have been no reports of injury and the investigation remains active.”

The Daily Mail’s political beat reporter Rob Crilly tweeted, “White powder in package sent to Kari Lake’s campaign. Staffer opened it last night. Phoenix police and fire responded. Staffer is fine, I’m told, but campaign is shaken up”

The most recent polling from Data for Progress has Lake at a 4-point advantage over her Democratic opponent Secretary of State Katie Hobbs.

The Associated Press reports, Hobbs said in a statement that the incident “is incredibly concerning.” She reported expressed she was thankful Lake and her staff weren’t harmed.

“Political violence, threats, or intimidation have no place in our democracy,” Hobbs said. “I strongly condemn this threatening behavior directed at Lake and her staff.”
