Xiomara Castro, La Presidente of Honduras, isn’t happy that the troublemakers they exported to the United States are being returned. On Wednesday, she went on TV to boldly threaten Donald Trump. If he continues to “pursue mass deportations,” she’ll deport all our soldiers. Yeah right, like that’s ever going to happen, all her subjects snicker. We support their entire national economy.
Honduras just bluffing
It’s blatantly obvious that President Xiomara Castro of Honduras is bluffing. The nation wouldn’t exist without our military presence. We help them a whole lot more than they help us.
On Wednesday, January 1, she started the new year off with a media blitz. One that may be the kiss of death for her political career. Smart politicians don’t make promises they can’t keep.
“Faced with a hostile attitude of mass expulsion of our brothers,” she whined, obviously referring to Trump’s declared deportation policy, “we would have to consider a change of our cooperation policies with the United States.”
They can consider it but their economy would collapse if they put it into action. There’s also the possibility the United States could annex the country with force. Though it’s not likely to come to that. Economic sanctions and tariffs should slap Honduras back in line.
For the past 40 years or so, “U.S. troops have been present at the Soto Cano air base in the town of Comayagua.” Joint Task Force Bravo has been fighting the war on drugs by working to “stem the transnational flow of narcotics and other contraband.”
Despite all the money spent by the base and by the individual service members, Honduras is miffed that the Pentagon never “formally purchased a space for its forces.”
End the friendship
Efforts by U.S. Republicans to “remove Latino immigrants,” Castro declared, “would force the amicable agreement to end.” She appears convinced we’re deporting all Latinos. That’s not true.
We’re only deporting the ones who didn’t fill out the proper forms. She’s only upset because we’ll be sending Honduras their criminals back.
Castro’s political opponents are attacking her in a frenzy like sharks smelling blood in the water. “Removing U.S. troops, considered one of its largest trading partners, would put the country in a critically vulnerable state,” they declare.
Jorge Cálix is a leading challenger in the next election. He saw her speech on TV and turned purple. He’s convinced such a move would put Honduras in “grave danger.”
Another contender “denounced her threat as unrealistic.” Olban Valladares points out what everyone in the nation is thinking. “She knows we don’t have the ability to threaten the United States in any way.” She’s cutting her own throat. “The damages it would cause Honduras would be terrible.”
Foreign Minister Enrique Reina went public to back Castro. She “has the power to do it” and doesn’t even need approval from their congress. She can do it but definitely should not do it, everyone else in Honduras is trying to tell her.
