Shop NowAntony Blinken is back in Israel. This is the 11th time Blinky flew in but the first time his plane had to dodge rockets on landing. Officially, he’s beating Joe’s dead ceasefire horse. He’s really there to beg mercy for the administration’s failure to secure highly classified intelligence. Leaking Israel’s retaliation attack plan to the Ayatollah wasn’t nice. It didn’t look good that his travel plans must have also leaked. Hezbollah had a bouquet of Iranian missiles waiting for his arrival.
Blinken plays it cool
Antony Blinken didn’t look rattled at all. Putting on a facade of cool and casual as he descended the air stairs for a photo op, our Secretary of State knew that his mission to “revive ceasefire talks” isn’t destined to get real far.
The rocket barrage on the way in is probably the easiest thing he’ll deal with the whole trip.
Joe Biden is obsessed with Israel declaring a ceasefire with Hamas and Hezbollah. His last chance for a “legacy” lies with that. Even if it only lasts a few days, Joe can claim credit for making it happen. If it doesn’t he’ll only be remembered for his demented incompetence and the crimes his crackhead son allowed to become exposed.
Blinken is expected to work out some sort of a deal. The big leak made that job a whole lot harder because it’s the only thing the Israelis want to talk about.
On Tuesday, October 22, “expectations for his attempt to rein in the hostilities appear low.” Just as Blinken was ready to touch down in Tel Aviv, Hezbollah launched medium-range missiles.
That shut down Ben Gurion Airport but didn’t take Blinky out of the game. He’s scheduled for a personal meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and separately with senior officials.
Wary of intentions
Washington is “wary” of Israels intentions. Along with attempting to pressure Netanyahu into signing a ceasefire with Hamas and Hezbollah, Blinken is trying to convince the Prime Minister to stay between the lines.
Sure, they have every right to retaliate against Iran, Blinky is allowed to say. Just please don’t make it hurt. Blow up a few rocket factories and call it even, the Democrat is authorized to suggest. Anything but don’t hit the oil fields or nuclear research centers.
Netanyahu unofficially assured Joe Biden, in what was supposed to be a confidential call, that Israel would be leaving those targets off the table. That news leaked. Then, U.S. Intelligence leaked crucial details of the retaliation plan online. That’s an unforgivable sin.
Those plans seem to indicate that Netanyahu lied to Joe and plans to get drastic. Maybe even with nuclear weapons. It appears he has been moving some around. Ones they don’t actually admit having. Blinken has to answer for all of that before he can think about asking for any favors.
The overall mood is that the war in Gaza, which escalated into conflict with Hezbollah all across Lebanon, will ramp up even further. First to “a full-blown regional war,” then potentially World War III. Al Jazeera isn’t offering Blinken favorable odds of success on a cease fire agreement. Their reporter noted “that Blinken’s prospects of securing diplomatic progress during his trip are seen as really low.”
If Blinken survives his trip to Israel, Blinky is headed into Jordan to talk about a possibility of “humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip.” His message will be “don’t get your hopes up because Congress is away until after Trump gets elected.“
