No matter which of them gets the gavel, they’re fully prepared to fast track Donald Trump’s cabinet picks. “Recess appointments” have been phased out by procedural agreement but not this year. Making America Great Again requires the entire Trump team up and running as fast as humanly possible.
Senate backs Trump
Currently, there are three favorites to succeed Mitch “Tooter the Turtle” McConnell as leader of the Senate. South Dakota’s John Thune, John Cornyn of Texas and Florida’s Rick Scott. They have their differences of opinion but they agree on one thing.
They’ll “do whatever is necessary to allow President-elect Trump to fill positions within his administration and the federal judiciary quickly.”
That means they would “support Trump making recess appointments.” That has stunned Democrats freaking out. Ever since Barack Obama took office, Senate leaders agreed not to let the upper chamber “go on recess for more than a few days without holding ceremonial pro forma sessions.”
That procedural mode prevents “presidents of either party from making recess appointments.”
They may have had a deal but it’s about to fall through. Trump “is calling on the next Senate majority leader to give him a free hand to make recess appointments.”
That way, he won’t need “the advice and consent” of a majority of Senators. The three front-runners agree that “Trump should have that power if he needs it.” Democrats have our nation on the verge of economic collapse, global war, or both.

Quickly and decisively
Senator Thune took to social media on the subject. “We must act quickly and decisively to get the president’s nominees in place as soon as possible & all options are on the table to make that happen, including recess appointments,” he posted.
There’s an important reason. “We cannot let Schumer and Senate Dems block the will of the American people.”
Rival John Cornyn posted similar remarks. “It is unacceptable for Senate Ds to blockade President @realDonaldTrump’s cabinet appointments.” If they had managed to retain the majority, they would have mired his picks in swamp muck for as long as the process could be dragged out.
Cornyn is ready for their games. If the blue team tries to drag their feet, “we will stay in session, including weekends, until they relent,” Cornyn warns. Not only that, “the Constitution expressly confers the power on the President to make recess appointments.”
On Sunday, President Trump publicly insisted “that whoever leads Senate Republicans next year must pledge to support his power to make recess appointments to the executive and judicial branches.” That lets him totally sidestep the confirmation vote circus.
As Trump points out, “sometimes the votes can take two years, or more. This is what they did four years ago, and we cannot let it happen again. We need positions filled IMMEDIATELY!” The republican Senate majority is ready to back him up on that.
