The Oregon Department of Forestry’s second-in-command official, Mike Shaw, is on “administrative leave.” He’s been suspended since August 6 for the horrendous offense of hiring “only candidates most qualified for the job.” Megan Donecker turned him in. “They” used to be the department’s DEI strategy officer. They couldn’t handle such a toxic environment, even after throwing their boss under the bus, so left to become a professional consultant.

Official on leave

Megan Donecker, who formerly served as the Oregon Department of Forestry’s DEI strategy officer, had the boss dragged away from his desk, kicking and screaming.

They had forestry official Mike Shaw put on suspension for allegedly looking “beyond gender and identity in hiring, seeking only candidates most qualified for the job.” How horrifying, progressive Democrats scream.

Liberals don’t seem to understand that forestry is a dangerous job. The official responsible for managing thousands of forest workers does. He’s qualified for his job. Forest service workers cut down a whole lot more trees than they hug. They’re not out cuddling with the wildlife in a grassy meadow of wildflowers, they’re using chainsaws and heavy equipment to clear the underbrush of fuel for wildfires. Rangers build roads, trails and other improvements.

Sure, it’s okay to hire a few queer tour-guides but forestry employees need to be qualified for the tasks assigned. Unprepared workers are a danger to the whole crew, not just themselves.

Shaw served as the Forestry Department’s second-in-command under State Forester Cal Mukumoto until Donecker filed a formal complaint against him.

They both knew they were in for a head on collision eventually, when the conservative official “advocated for a careful approach to DEI.” He wasn’t in favor of making sudden changes in the way the forest is managed.

Speeding on ice

Donecker took serious offense when Shaw compared rushing into diversity to “speeding on an icy road.” Shaw explained, or tried to, “we don’t go 60 out of the gate, or we’re gonna crash the car.” Donecker preferred to drop a cinder block on the gas pedal. That was only the beginning. All six “queer staffers” in the office didn’t “feel safe or comfortable” at work.

That nasty official running the show wouldn’t let them have “conversation around pronouns.” According to a local journalist, “the Department of Forestry is charged with protecting about 16 million acres of public and private forestland and serves as Oregon’s largest fire department.

The Oregon Department of Forestry isn’t saying a word to Fox News. Recently, they have responded to public criticism of their agency by swearing up and down that Official leadership “takes employee complaints and concerns seriously and, when brought to our attention, we ensure they’re handled in accordance with state laws, rules, policies and HR best practices.

This includes “protecting employees from retaliation.” Shaw was instantly declared a threat and escorted from the office by security.

State Forester Mukumoto doesn’t want the same thing happening to him, so took a proactive approach. He assures all the “freaks, hairies, dykes and fairies” in his department that the official policy of “providing a safe, diverse and inclusive workplace is a shared core value and priority of both the department and the Board of Forestry.

Residents “have slowly begun pushing back.” Clackamas County already announced that “it will dismantle their nearly $830,000 a year diversity, equity and inclusion office.” They say it’s an “unnecessary expense” that “only foments friction.
