With Democrats attempting to fearmonger over the latest COVID variant, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is standing strong, saying that he is not going to let “Fauci-ism” be imposed on his state.
Freedom will continue to reign in Florida, according to DeSantis. As officials are investigating a “presumptive case” of the Omicron variant in the Sunshine State, the governor has vowed that there will be no new restrictions or mandates.
“In Florida, we won’t let them lock ya down, we won’t let them restrict you, we’re not gonna let them impose mandates, we’re not gonna let them close the schools,” said DeSantis after giving a speech at a park in Oldsmar, located just west of Tampa.
“We are gonna protect your freedom to make your decisions,” he continued, adding that if Florida residents want to self-quarantine, then “that is absolutely their decision in a free society.”
“You don’t impose Fauci-ism on the whole country or on a whole state. It’s wrong,” DeSantis noted further, making sure to cite his state’s low COVID infection and death rates.
The governor went on to discuss the fact that governors in other states have already decided to impose new lockdowns and restrictions on their citizens because of the new variant, which has been shown to be more transmissible, but nowhere near as deadly as other variants.
“It’s a free country, so when people are in bad environments – when you have states that don’t know how to fight crime, when you have states that are locking people down, mandating them, doing a lot of stupid things – people look for greener pastures,” DeSantis said.
“This is something that you have to deal with,” he added, referring to COVID, and suggesting that the lockdowns imposed by other states will not help anything, just as they haven’t helped in the past.
