They’re at it again in Minneapolis, Minnesota, they’re trying to dismantle their police force and replace them with a “public safety department” which would handle all emergency calls, including violent encounters, assault, domestic violence, drugs, murder, rape, arson, burglary… ALL OF IT, with a “comprehensive public health approach.” but the measure never says precisely HOW. It’s insanity.
The movement attempting to dismantle the Minneapolis PD (again) has been spearheaded by the “Yes 4 Minneapolis Committee”. Following a petition which was signed by some 20,000 Minneapolis residents (about 5% of the city’s population). A previous motion by the City Council was blocked by the Minneapolis Charter Commission which ruled that the city’s charter requires that it have a “law enforcement division” rather than a “public safety department”
Once signed the petition was voted upon by The Minneapolis Policy and Government Oversight Committee, comprised of the entire 13 member city council, the vote was definitive: 11-2. The measure will now go to the general council, a mere formality.
Fox News, citing local sources wrote “If the City Council votes in favor of the amendment, it would appear on the general election ballot for Minneapolis residents on Nov. 2.”
According to The Daily Wire, the measure itself reads,
“Shall the Charter be amended to create a Department of Public Safety that employs a comprehensive public health approach with a range of strategies and personnel, including licensed peace officers as necessary, to fulfill responsibilities for community safety, with the general nature of the amendments being briefly indicated in the explanatory note below, which is made a part of this ballot?”
Replace Law Enforcement With What!?!?
According to Yes4Minneapolis‘ website, the organization plans to “Police violence is evident while communities are also seeing overall violence on the rise, 9-1-1 response times differ based on your neighborhood, and we still have not addressed the root causes of crime and violence, like poverty, unstable housing, and inequitable access to good schools.
“It’s time to establish a model of public safety that is more humane, includes professionals who are trained in mental health issues and crisis de-escalation”.
They continue to say “This will allow us to be both proactive and responsive to the community, adding a range of strategies, right-sized responses, experts, professional personnel, and licensed peace officers”
Socialist Support for The #DefundThePolice Movement
Unsurprisingly the Yes4Minnesota movement which has renewed the leftist assault on the Minneapolis PD in spite of their bending the knee to Black Lives Matter and offering up Officer Derek Chauvin without even a token defense is very proudly asserting their coalition with several Socialist Organizations. These groups include The Twin Cities Democratic Socialists of America, The Minnesota SEIU, and Socialist Alternative. The removal of one of the last of society’s bastions: law enforcement plays directly into the long-term goals of these socialist groups. by creating an insufficiency of local law enforcement a greater centralization of police power into the federal government will be called for with the ultimate goal to replace ALL local police with a nationalized force much like the East German Stasi. This will create as it has historically: the mechanism for imposing socialism, and eventually communism upon the American people.
