It’s a new session of Congress, and we all know what that means.
Like clockwork, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) will try to get legislation for term limits on Congress put into play.
Cruz has failed numerous times to get this floored, and he is likely to fail again this time, but it will not stop him from trying.
Batter Up!
The amount of time that some of our senators and congressman have spent in office is shameful.
Look at Joe Biden… the man spent four decades in Congress.
Nancy Pelosi, Diane Feinstein, Mitch McConnell, and there are plenty more.
Congress was not supposed to be a lifelong career, which brings us to Cruz’s attempt at having an amendment to impose term limits.
Cruz stated, “Term limits are critical to fixing what’s wrong with Washington, D.C.
“The Founding Fathers envisioned a government of citizen legislators who would serve for a few years and return home, not a government run by a small group of special interests and lifelong, permanently entrenched politicians who prey upon the brokenness of Washington to govern in a manner that is totally unaccountable to the American people.
“Terms limits bring about accountability that is long overdue and I urge my colleagues to advance this amendment along to the states so that it may be quickly ratified and become a constitutional amendment.”
Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) added, “Elected office should represent a short-term privilege of public service, not a career choice.
“Those of us in Congress ought to serve for a reasonable period of time and then return home to live under the laws we enacted.”
The legislation has a dozen co-sponsors, but there is not a single Democrat listed.
Considering they have control of the Senate right now, that tells you all you need to know about the chances of this succeeding.
