Sources have revealed that marked classified documents have been found in Biden’s private office at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington.
This center is known to be a Biden think tank located a mile away from the White House.
Apparently the paperwork was discovered in a box with other various unclassified documents. At this time, the contents of the documents nor their level of classification have been revealed to the public.
According to CBS News, the U.S. attorney in Chicago has been asked by Attorney General Merrick Garland to review the documentation. The FBI is also confirmed to be involved in the inquiry.
CBS News shared that, “The classified material was identified by personal attorneys for Mr. Biden on Nov. 2, just before the midterm elections, Richard Sauber, special counsel to the president confirmed.”
Sauber stated:
“The documents were not the subject of any previous request or inquiry by the Archives. Since that discovery, the President’s personal attorneys have cooperated with the Archives and the Department of Justice in a process to ensure that any Obama-Biden Administration records are appropriately in the possession of the Archives.”
According to a source, representatives from the National Archives have notified the Justice Department.
Currently, this review is being considered just a preliminary step in the investigation. The attorney general will decide whether any additional investigation is needed.
Biden learned of the classified documentation back in November 2022 when his lawyer had first reported them to the White House counsel’s office. A source shared that the contents of the documents are unknown to President Biden.
In the meantime, the documents are securely held in Washington.
