Disgraced actor Jussie Smollett has been found guilty on five counts of disorderly conduct for staging a fake hate crime. Despite this, BLM stands by him.
The Case Against Jussie
Jussie Smollett, a B-list actor formerly on the show Empire, was recently found guilty for staging a hate crime against himself in 2019.
The Daily Wire reported on Smollett’s claim at the time:
“Smollett contends he was targeted by two Trump supporters, who verbally and physically accosted him as he was walking home from a Subway sandwich shop in downtown Chicago on January 29. The actor says the men called him a “f*****” and a “n*****,” tied a noose around his neck, poured bleach on him, and kicked him in the ribs.”
The men also supposedly yelled “This is MAGA country,” (in Chicago) and the crime took place at around 2 a.m. in the middle of a “polar vortex.”
None of the details of this story added up, even from the beginning. But many people were willing to give Smollett the benefit of the doubt, until police came out with evidence that directly disproved his claims.
In the end, it turns out that Smollett hired two of his friends, Nigerian brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo, to stage the crime, and paid them handsomely for it. Enough evidence was provided to the jury to prove this, and Smollett was found guilty.
Before the guilty verdict came in, Black Lives Matter came out to show their support for Jussie Smollett, saying that they are backing him because “we can never believe the police.”
“As abolitionists, we approach situations of injustice with love and align ourselves with our community,” Dr. Melina Abdullah, director of BLM Grassroots and co-founder of BLM Los Angeles, said in a statement released on December 7th.
“In an abolitionist society, this trial would not be taking place, and our communities would not have to fight and suffer to prove our worth,” she added.
“In our commitment to abolition, we can never believe police, especially the Chicago Police Department (CPD) over Jussie Smollett, a Black man who has been courageously present, visible, and vocal in the struggle for Black freedom,” Abdullah’s statement continued.
Following his conviction, instead of realizing that they had made a mistake, BLM doubled down.
TMZ reached out to Abdullah after the verdict for a comment. The outlet reports:
“Now, after Jussie’s been found guilty, BLM LA leader Melina Abdullah tells us that stance hasn’t changed — Jussie has their full support. Abdula says the organization refuses to abandon its people and stands on the principle that the justice system is corrupt.”
The Bottom Line
The fact that Black Lives Matter is willing to believe Jussie Smollett over actual physical evidence and testimony from both Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo just proves that the organization doesn’t care about actual justice. While police were busy investigating the fake hate crime against Smollett, they could have been helping solve the murders of countless black people that are killed every day in Chicago. Hate crime hoaxes like the one Smollett perpetrated make legitimate hate crimes less likely to be believed, and do a lot of damage to race relations overall in the country. But BLM doesn’t care about any of that, they just want to be outraged, blame police for everything, and never actually lift a finger to fix the problems in their own communities.
