Joe Biden‘s team issued a new directive on immigration enforcement on his first day in office that could have had deadly consequences.
Memorandum to Release Criminals
Under Biden’s new memorandum, “Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were to focus their efforts on threats to national security, threats to public safety and immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally on or after Nov. 1,” according to news outlet Fox 6.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice Chief of Staff Jason Clark reported that 26 “detainer” requests, which require law enforcement at the state and local level to hold individuals who enter the United States illegally, were dropped by ICE as a result of this policy.
The majority of these 26 individuals were convicted of drug offenses or drunk-driving offenses, which the Democrats seem to believe are insignificant charges, despite the fact that drunk driving can lead to deadly accidents. Releasing these criminals is apparently a priority of the Biden administration.
Other than the substance abuse offenses, two of the men that were set to be released were convicted of sexually assaulting a teenager, and a third was convicted of indecency with a child.
Luckily, thanks to discussions between the state prison system and immigration authorities, these three sex offenders were not released. Officials noted that the process of holding these criminals “raised alarms that ICE was declining to detain convicts contrary to immigration law,” Fox 6 reported.
The fact that American citizens are receiving harsher penalties for breaking the law in the United States seems to be lost on the Democrats. It may be slightly understandable when the left defends illegal immigrants whose only crime is crossing the border, but many are questioning how they can justify taking it a step further, defending actual criminals over the American citizens that they have victimized.
